Chocolate Buttercream Frosting

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • cups powdered sugar
  • cup cocoa powder
  • tsp vanilla extract
  • 3-4 tbsp heavy cream or milk
  • pinch instant espresso

Instructions

  • Place butter in the bowl of a stand mixer and beat on low speed until creamy and smooth. Scape down the sides of the bowl.
  • Add 2 cups of the powdered sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, espresso, and 2 tbsp of heavy cream.
  • Continue to mix on low speed until well combined. Gradually add in the remaining powdered sugar. Add 1-2 tbsp of heavy cream if needed.
  • Frost cupcakes immediately when frosting is mixed.
