  • basil leaves – a must for this soup is to use fresh basil.

How to make tomato basil soup

Combine the tomato puree, crushed tomatoes, and chicken broth in a soup pot or Dutch oven. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for ten to fifteen minutes. Add in the sugar and chopped basil, mixing well. Lower the heat further and stir in the heavy cream.

Ingredients

  • 28 oz tomato puree
  • 28 oz crushed tomatos
  • 14.5 oz chicken broth
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 15-20 fresh basil leaves, chopped

Instructions

  • In large saucepan or soup pot, bring the crushed tomatoes, puree, and chicken broth to a boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Add sugar and chopped basil. Stir in well.
  • Further reduce heat to low and stir in cream.
  • Serve with a garnish of a basil leaf on top.
