Easter Dinner

Easter Dinner

Easter Dinner was always special growing up. In addition to celebrating the resurrection of Christ, it was also a time for the family to come together to enjoy a fancy meal, partake in family activities, and share some love.

Mom was a Southern Baptist and devout Christian. The true meaning of Easter was impressed upon us as the reason for the season. It was a time for celebration as Christ had risen and given hope and promise of eternal life. Each Easter, as we headed to church to celebrate, we dressed to the nines in new outfits, complete with gloves, bows, shiny patent leather shoes, and a new tie for Richie.

Now, aside from the religious aspect, we learned the fun side of Easter. The Easter Bunny visited on Saturday night, leaving a basket full of chocolates and candy for each of us. There was always an Easter Egg hunt somewhere for a chance to collect the most eggs and win prizes.

The best part of it all was Easter dinner! Family always gathered at our house, and it was a house full. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and a few others who had joined our flock. Mom always brought out the China and Silver for this meal. The menu never changed.

Reflecting on it, this was not the healthiest meal, but it was what we knew, and it was tradition. I have shared the recipes for each of these dishes in the recipes section of my blog.

My hope for you is that you got to celebrate Easter as a child too. From the true meaning of Easter to the Easter Bunny, to good food and family gathering. To this day, it’s a tradition I still carry forward and enjoy. Thanks Mom!
